In May 2012 the Canada West Foundation (CWF) released a report entitled "Tools of the trade: Urban environmental improvement options". The report, the first in a series of three reports, is based on the CWF "Missing Link" Project, and looks at the tools Canadian cities could use to improve their environmental performance. The tools are sorted into five categories:
- Landscape & Ecology
- Urban Design
- Transportation
- Water Management
- Energy Use
The second report in the series is entitled "Bright spots: Urban environmental initiatives in Western Canada", and gives examples of projects undertaken in different cities.
The third report in the series will examine the role of public policy in implementing this type of tool or initiative.
