Lift-off for latest Landsat mission

An Atlas rocket was launched in California this week as part of the Landsat-8 mission. The rocket was launched into polar orbit, and will record images of the earth's surface continuously, as described in this BBC News report. Landsat-7 will continue to operate as well, allowing every land point on the earth's surface to be recorded every 8 days. All Landsat data from the past 40 years is publically available; for full Landsat details, via this NASA website.
