Plains Bison Reintroduction in Banff National Park

The federal government has announced funding for a five-year project to reintroduce plains bison to Banff National Park, in support of the National Conservation Plan. As this Parks Canada news release indicates, the project will bring a small herd of bison to Banff. Prior to the establishment of the National Park, bison were part of the montane ecosystem in the Banff area. The news release also contains details on First Nations involvement in the project, and the rationale behind the bison reintroduction.
