Video - Determining geotechnical properties of in-line flocculated fine fluid tailings. Presentation by Dr. Louis Kabwe

Dr. Louis K. Kabwe is a Post Doctorate and Research Engineer at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta.

Dr. Kabwe describes the pilot centrifuge plant at Syncrude's Mildred Lake 2010 trial and the thin lift cells that received the centrifuge cake. Frozen samples of in-line flocculated tailings from the deposition cell were collected in the winter of 2010-2011. Dr. Kabwe reviews the geotechnical properties of the frozen samples and discusses the large strain consolidation tests. There was a forty percent increase in solid content in five months.

Dr. Louis Kabwe's presentation was a part of the Tailings and Mine Waste conference in Banff, Alberta in November 2013.
