Dr. Lee Foote of the University of Alberta's Department of Renewable Resources published this paper in the journal Ecology and Society in 2012. The paper looks at reclamation in Alberta's oilsands region, particularly in relation to the quantity of water and fluid byproducts now present as a result of oilsands production. The length of time and cost to reclaim these areas back to peatland, and thresholds related to time, costs and social tolerance are discussed.
