Coal Conservation Act (2013)

This Act establishes a regulatory regime administered by the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) for the development of coal and related facilities in Alberta. The Act applies to mines, coal processing plants, coal schemes in Alberta, and in situ coal produced and transported in Alberta.

Coal Conservation Rules (2020)

This regulation is made under the Coal Conservation Act and provides requirements for applications to the Alberta Energy Regulator for coal exploration or mining operations, coal processing plants and in site coal schemes. It also provides for the suspension and abandonment, submission of information and data to the Regulator, and security deposits requirements.
