David Campbell, geospatial analyst at FORCORP, talks about recreation in Alberta and the importance of considering many different environmental factors before creating a trail. Given current and expected future demand for access to recreation, managers need assistance in planning.
The focus of the discussion is on The Trail Tool he created after travelling down about 70 000 km of trials and rating the level of disturbance on each one. Research that took weeks to months, now takes hours or days because of this tool.
This presentation was a part of the Sustaining Alberta’s Forested Headwaters: Science Symposium, which occurred in November of 2015.
