Video - Test methods to evaluate soil microbial health in a petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated boreal forest soil. Presentation by Dr. Lee Beaudette

Dr. Lee Beaudette summarizes research at the National Research Council to assess soil microbial health. The tests assess soil microbial biomass, microbial activity and microbial diversity and community structure. A data integration method was developed. The test methods on soil samples from a pipeline-break affected site in northern Alberta were able to show soil microbial health was impacted.

Dr. Lee Beaudette is Manager of the Soil Biotechnology Laboratory, Environment Canada, Ottawa, Canada. His presentation was part of the Petroleum Technology Alliance of Canada's Soil and Groundwater Forum on March 25, 2013.
