Video - Implementing actions in lake management plans. Presentation by Dave Mussell

Dave Mussell describes the process of how lake management plans get implemented.  The "Water for Life" strategy puts the responsibility for watershed planning on WPACs, lake management societies and municipalities. It is a co-shared responsibility. The plan must be based on science and have actions timely and relevant to the issues. He discusses the role of plan sponsors in getting support for a series of actions by the variety of organizations and people affected by the plan. A plan is a series of projects. A plan without commitments is a report. He recommends working on a plan in chunks and communicating successes with each action on the plan. He concludes by emphasizing that a thoughtful group of volunteers is the core of successful change.

Dave Mussell is a coordinator of environmental planning and partnerships with Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development. His presentation was part of the Lake Management Workshop sponsored by the Mayatan Lake Management Society and the North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance, June 19, 2013 at Carvel, Alberta.
