Walt Neilson asks a simple question: "Who looks after lakes in Alberta?" In a journey to protect a small lake west of Edmonton from a 200 site RV park development, the Mayatan Lake Management Association discovered that lake management is somewhat of a jurisdictional orphan in Alberta. Walt Neilson's presentation describes the journey the Association made from a one-issue organization to a watershed management group working with the North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance.
Walt Neilson is President of the Mayatan Lake Management Association, a watershed management and community action group. Walt Neilson has worked in IT for over 30 years and Lake Mayatan is in Parkland County, west of Edmonton, Alberta.
