Elisa Brose, member of the Mayatan Lake Management Association, gives an update on the work done to protect the long term health of the Mayatan Lake.
While the organization began by opposing a planned campground development, it continued because of the need for guidelines to protect the health of the lake. They did a State of the Watershed Report and a paleolimnology report. Now they are working on a Watershed Management Plan (WMP).
In the near future they will be talking to community members to better understand their watershed management issues, so it can be incorporated into the WMP. They are also collaborating with many watershed stewardship organizations within the Lakes of Parkland County to share information about lake problems, collaborate on projects, and protect lakes together.
This presentation was a part of the CARL Forum at the Pine Lake Hub Centre, in May of 2014.
