At the WPAC Summit, Sept. 26, Hugh Sanders, Chair, Battle River Watershed Alliance identified the intergrated watershed plan as their success in 2011. Eleven different groups consulted in next steps on the implementation plan. Biodiversity, water quantity, water quality and land-use.
BRWA has identified 12 topics and are working on three prioritites:
- BRWA has started on drought management: research, sharing the information, and now listening to people's input on what to do.
- Second priority is non-point source pollution using the same process.
- Third priority is riparian management. A challenge is wide diversity in the sub-basins.
Challenge of every WPAC: to consult, to listen living up to the "advisory" component of watershed planning advisory councils.
