At the 2012 WPAC Summit held in Milk River in September, Les Gammie, President of the North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance, identified the following successes for the NSWA: completed the integrated watershed management plan for the North Saskatchewan watershed and the Vermilion River and a detailed atlas of the NSR watershed. The implementation plan is their next major project.
Challenges: the voluntary model of participation by different sectors is too weak, likewise funding security. Implementation of watershed plans will be a challenge.
The cooperation NSWA has had with the Industrial Heartland planning group is an example of the model the Government of Alberta needs to look at to get action on watershed plans.
