Maggie Romuld, executive director of South East Alberta Watershed Alliance (SEAWA), discusses the importance of collaboration to improve watershed management. She talks about the assistance SEAWA got from ESRD RIPB, and explains that this pilot project can be seen as a test to develop protocols for the provision of necessary data, as well as minimize the demands on SEAWAs limited funding. They aim to determine if there are pressures on water quality in the region.
This work contributes to the objectives outlined in the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan, specifically: supporting the work of the Watershed Planning and Advisory Councils (WPACs) on watershed assessment and planning, and supporting the work of WPACs including the development of the watershed management plans. This presentation was a part of Alberta’s WPAC Summit in October of 2014, entitled: Water Summit in the Valley: Innovation and Leadership in Sustainable Water Management.
