The upgrader planned to be built near Redwater has been given the go-ahead to start construction in spring 2013. As explained in this Edmonton Journal article, the partnership behind the upgrader has estimated that the cost of building the upgrader will be about $5.7billion. Up to 3000 workers will be needed at peak times, and 50,000 barrels a day of bitumen can be processed into diesel.
