Environment Canada released a new recovery strategy for Southern Mountain Caribou on June 2, 2014. This new strategy hasn't change the Government of Alberta's plan to include caribou habitat in upcoming lease sales. As this Edmonton Journal article explains, the Government of Alberta insists that energy companies who select that land will have to abide by strict usage regulations, protecting caribou.
