Alberta postpones energy lease sale on range used by caribou

A planned sell-off of energy leases in the Redrock-Prairie Creek area has been postponed. As reported by Global News, the government has elected to delay the sale to better consider all the implications.

As explained in this earlier this Edmonton Journal article, the 21,000 hectares that are available would require energy companies to comply with restrictions, but some feel that the area should have a moratorium on energy leases.

The Alberta Government is in the process of creating range plans for several caribou ranges in the area.
