The Alberta Energy Regulator will be revising the province's tailings pond regulations - Directive 74 - in order to ensure they align with the current government's goals. Currently many companies have difficulty meeting the standards set in directive 74. As this Globe and Mail article explains, the province's goals are to slow the growth of tailings ponds and later increase the speed at which they are reclaimed.
