Alberta Energy will include 1700 hectares of land north of Grande Cache in the next industry lease auction, in spite of the use of the land by threatened mountain caribou herds. As this CTV News report explains, the mountain caribou currently are listed as a threatened species, but a recommendation was recently made to change their status to endangered. There is currently no recovery strategy for mountain caribou in Alberta.
