Alberta's Action on Caribou: Caribou Range Planning
Alberta is taking leadership when it comes to recovering caribou herds, while also protecting Indigenous rights and respecting the livelihood of the many individuals and communities reliant upon resource industries within caribou ranges. We want to ensure caribou remain a part of our landscapes, and that we maintain strong, vibrant communities well into the future.
Alberta’s Draft Provincial Woodland Caribou Range Plan will build on existing work and develop actions and strategies to meet provincial and federal caribou population and habitat objectives. We will continue to plan for the range-specific details, applying the direction contained in the Draft Provincial Woodland Caribou Range Plan at the landscape level. We need your feedback to help shape how this will be done.
Social and economic outcomes are an important part of the range planning process. Our intention is to minimize all impacts to local communities while meeting caribou recovery objectives. We will be relying upon those with local knowledge of social and economic conditions to support this work as it advances.
Woodland Caribou Range Planning Engagement
Engagement in support of caribou range planning in Alberta has been broken into three general phases prior to release of a final range plan: We are currently in Phase Two engagement on the Draft Provincial Woodland Caribou Range Plan. |
