Artificial lakes the latest proposal to reclaim spend oilsands mines

A proposal from the Cumulative Effects Management Association (CEMA) would see up to 30 artificial lakes created from reclaimed end-pit mines in the oilsands region, according to this Edmonton Journal story. The proposal, which needs review and approval from the Government of Alberta before proceeding, would aim to create lakes safe for wildlife and recreation; the technology to be used in the process is, however, in the early stages of development.
