BC forests decimated by mountain pine beetle attacks are at risk of massive fires. As this Globe & Mail article reports, forestry experts have identified the problem of huge amounts of ground fuel in forests where the beetles have been. Controlled burns have shown that fires burn intensely and rapidly. Different solutions are proposed, including harvesting or clearing and replanting with new species.
