Bird counts measure success of oilsands land reclamation

A large bird-count study is wrapping up its second field season in north-eastern Alberta. As described in this Edmonton Journal article, the study is designed to identify the number and types of birds that are using the reclaimed forest on a former Syncrude mine site. As of the end of this year, over 5000 birds have been banded. Data analysis has not been completed, so results aren't yet available.
