Climate change could decrease wetland carbon storage

Research from the University of Alberta's Department of Renewable Resources, led by Mike Flannigan, indicates that peatlands may become less able to store carbon after they experience disturbances. Climate change could change the ecosystem from peatland to shrub-grass, significantly affecting its ability to store carbon and leaving the landscape vulnerable to more frequent fires.
