Earthworm invasion: Study forecasts rise of worms in northern boreal forest

Earthworms are invading the northern boreal forest, with harmful effects for the ecosystem, according to research from the University of Alberta. While helpful in gardens, in the boreal forest the earthworms are an invasive species that are changing the soil system to suit their needs, and are bringing about changes to the forest. More details about the spread of the worms - at a rate of about 16 meters a year - can be found in this Edmonton Journal article.
