A new residential development on the outskirts of Edmonton is incorporating strategies to minimize the impact on nearby wetlands and forest. As explained in this article in the National Post, a wildlife underpass will allow moose and deer to pass underneath a 4-lane bridge. In addition, grading in the new areas has been designed to ensure that run-off goes through stormwater ponds before entering the nearby lake. Residents will have to avoid pesticides, use rain barrels, and limit the amount of concrete in their yards.
