Edmonton seeks cash for wetlands in new provincial policy

The City of Edmonton is hoping that Alberta's new wetland policy will help with replacing the natural wetlands that will be lost as the city expands to the south-east. As this Edmonton Journal article explains, the new wetlands policy will assign a value to natural wetlands based on biodiversity, its role in the landscape, and human use. This value will then determine how the lost wetland needs to be replaced. A map with values is expected before March 2015.
