Environmental watchdog worried about rise of fracking

The final report from departing Environment Commissioner Scott Vaughan was tabled in the House of Commons today. The report highlights some of Vaughan's concerns about the emerging issue of hydraulic fracturing, and the chemicals used in the process. As explained in this CBC News article, the report indicates that the government does not have an adequate understanding of the chemicals involved in hydraulic fracturing, therefore is unable to implement appropriate monitoring and risk assessment measures.
