Fine for oilsands water violation will be used to establish wetlands

The majority of the $100,000 fine to be collected from Grizzly Oil Sands ULC for a water violation will be put towards establishing wetlands in the oilsands region. The company breached the conditions of a water usage license. According to this Edmonton Journal article, the wetlands to be established will contain plants of significance to aboriginal communities in the area. The creative sentencing is meant to offset potential harm done to the ecosystem.
