An investigation by the Energy Resources Conservation Board has determined that hydraulic fracturing at a nearby site was the cause of a well blow-out near Innisfail in January of 2012. As reported by the Edmonton Journal, the ERCB found that Midway Energy Ltd's hydraulic fracturing and the resulting pressure build-up caused the oil to be released at the well in question. No enforcement action has resulted.
