Grizzly bears in Alberta are expected to start waking from their winter slumber starting in the next few weeks. Large male grizzlies are the first to emerge from their dens, generally starting in mid- to late March. As this Calgary Herald article states, Parks Canada officials have already spotted one grizzly near Banff. Denning times can vary by sevaral weeks from one year to the next.
