Invasive fish removed from Banff lake to create haven for threatened cutthroat trout

Parks Canada is in the process of removing brook trout from Hidden Lake in order to create a lake environment suitable for the threatened westslope cutthroat trout species. According to this Calgary Herald report, the cutthroat trout originally thrived in Hidden Lake, but several years ago the brook trout were introduced into the lake and they squeezed out the other species. After removing the brook trout, Parks Canada will slowly reintroduce the cutthroat trout to the lake.
