Limiting lake development key to preserving water birds: study

Breeding grounds for bird species in decline need to be preserved, according to new research from the University of Alberta. Biologists Mara Erickson and Mark Boyce have studied the Western Grebe and its presence on Alberta lakes over time. Limiting recreational development on the lakes preferred by the birds could help the species' numbers improve. More details about the study, recently published in PLOS One can be found here in this UAlberta News story.
