Logging ban near Jasper gives caribou one-year reprieve

The provincial government has instituted a year-long logging ban in part of the Little Smoky caribou range in an effort to help the herd's population. The logging ban has been put in place to allow for time to develop a range management plan for the area. As explained in this Calgary Herald article, the Little Smoky herd numbers about 80, and uses land that has significant disturbance from forestry and oil and gas developments.
