The University of Alberta's Rangeland Research Institute - Mattheis Ranch is now protected by a conservation easement. The agreement is between the UofA and the Western Sky Land Trust, and ensures that the ranch land will be conserved in perpetuity. As this Calgary Herald article explains, the existing development on the property will be permitted to proceed, but no future development will be permitted.
