Metro plan impasse leads to water supply issues

A long-standing disagreement between the City of Calgary and neighbouring communities and counties has led some rural developments to seek water from over 100 km away rather than from nearby Calgary. As this Calgary Herald article explains, Rocky View County has looked for water services from the Red Deer River, and trucks wastewater from a development rather than connect to Calgary's system. The dispute is about the Calgary Metropolitan Plan, and the refusal of some rural areas to sign onto the plan.
