A long-standing disagreement between the City of Calgary and neighbouring communities and counties has led some rural developments to seek water from over 100 km away rather than from nearby Calgary. The dispute is about the Calgary Metropolitan Plan, and the refusal of some rural areas to sign onto the plan.
