A new arm's-length agency will oversee environmental monitoring in Alberta, the Government announced today. A management board has been appointed by the minister for Environment & Sustainable Resource Development in order to develop the framework under which the new agency will work, and to establish a Science Advisory Board to provide input and advice. The arm's-length monitoring agency was one of the recommendations from the Environmental Monitoring Working Group report released in June. The agency will be responsible for integrated monitoring of air, water, land and biodiversity in Alberta, beginning with the oilsands region.
