A multi-year drought along the Athabasca River could have serious implications for the oilsands, a new study suggests. As this article from CBC News reports, 72% of water used from the Athabasca River goes to oilsands operations. If a multi-year drought were to occur, the river may not be able to sustain that volume of use. The study quoted in the article was done by researchers from the University of Regina.
