A berm that burst in October 2013 at the Obed Mountain Mine hadn't been inspected by the province as it hadn't been classified as a dam. As explained in this Edmonton Journal article, this point was made during a public update into the investigation surrounding the tailings pond spill. Sherritt has indicated that the company inspected the berm regularly, however. Cleanup of the spill site continues.
