Province suspends sales of energy leases near ranges of threatened caribou herds

The ranges near the Little Smoky and A La Peche caribou herds have had the sales of energy leases suspended temporarily. The Alberta government made the move in order to develop range plans to coordinate with the federal recovery plan. As this Edmonton Journal article explains, energy leases have been halted until 2014.
