Research finds roads reduce grizzly bear survival rates

Research from the fRI Grizzly Bear Program indicates that there is a relationship between road density and the rate of grizzly bear deaths. This article from the Calgary Herald - attached as a PDF below - explains that the research shows female bears with cubs are most likely to be affected by greater road density. In addition, the research also indicates that bears are less likely to choose a den site close to a road. This research could have an impact on the updated grizzly bear recovery strategy being worked on by the government of Alberta.
