No oilsands mining companies are meeting the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) standards for tailings pond reclamation and cleanup, a new report says. According to this Edmonton Journal article, the ERCB report indicates that the guidelines established in 2009 for dealing with tailings ponds have not been met as new technologies have not been able to reduce the amount of tailings or reduce the size of the ponds. While technologies are still being investigated, the report indicates that they will take longer to develop than previously thought.
