Toxic waste spill in northern Alberta biggest of recent disasters in North America

A massive 9.5 million litre toxic waste spill in northern Alberta is the third in the region, and the largest of all recent spills. As reported in the Globe and Mail, the leak of 'produced water' has resulted in significant damage to the landscape, including wetlands and tributaries. The company responsible for the spill - Apache - has stopped the leak and is monitoring the area.

This article from CBC News includes a report from a University of Alberta ecologist who confirms that the salt content of the leaked fluid will kill the plants in the area.
