Two creeks at the site of the recent Obed mine spill have been decimated, according to experts at a recent forum on the event. As this Edmonton Journal article explains, the spill of wastewater from a storage tank/pond caused a massive quantity of debris to be deposited along the forest and creek beds as the water made its way to the Athabasca River. The full extent of the damage to the area and the fish populations likely won't be known until spring.
