The mountain pine beetle infestation is not spreading out of the forests in northwestern Alberta, thanks in part to spread control efforts. As explained in this Edmonton Journal article, the Alberta Government and local forestry companies have implemented an aggressive program of selectively logging or burning trees where mountain pine beetles have been spotted, in an effort to prevent the insects from spreading.
