Whitebark pine trees: Is their future at risk?

Whitebark pine populations have decreased by as much as 90% in some areas of the US and Canada, and that may only be the start of trouble for the whitebark pine. As reported on Phys.org, a recent study published in the Journal of Ecology found that surviving whitebark pine trees will encounter problems producing enough seed cones because so many others have not survived. The whitebark pine is an important food source for many mountain animals, such as the Clark's Nutcracker and grizzly bears.
