In his lecture for the University of Alberta's Department of Renewable Resources seminar series, Dr. Lee Foote of the Devonian Botanic Gardens talks about the role of gardens historically and in more recent times. This relates to the place or urban agriculture in urban settings.
Gardens are essential to our intellectual advancement. What we understand about biology has been strongly influenced by knowledgeable people working in gardens. In addition, gardens have had significant influence on fine art, poetry, architecture, drama and religion.
