On October 10, 2012, Alberta Environment & Sustainable Resource Development released a new clean air strategy and action plan for the province. Clearing the Air: Alberta's Renewed Clean Air Strategy, 2012 is an updated version of the original strategy in 1991. Over the course of several years and numerous consultations and recommendations, a new plan emerged focussing on four main areas:
- Governance
- Regional planning
- Pollution prevention & control
- Knowledge & information
The Strategy is accompanied by an Action Plan that outlines the short-term, mid-term and long-term actions that will be used to implement the Strategy.
