In February 2012 the Government of Canada and Government of Alberta unveiled a new strategy for monitoring the cumulative environmental impacts of the oil sands region of Alberta. The plan calls for a "scientifically credible, integrated approach to environmental monitoring" of air, water, land and biodiversity. The plan will be phased in over the next three years.
