Video - Achieving Regional Planning Outcomes: Efficient Use of Land. Presentation by Joannes Wong

This is the second part of a 2-part series of presentations.

Joannes Wong, representing Municipal Affairs for the Government of Alberta, discusses the importance of efficient use of land for regional planning. He explains the value of using public and private land in a way that minimizes the footprint of human activities on Alberta's landscape.

The Efficient Use of Land (EUL) strategy is important to help ensure land is used efficiently. It includes 6 principles and over 50 voluntary tools and best practices in two compendiums (Integrated Land Management Tools Compendium on public lands and Efficient Use of Land Implementation Tools Compendium on private lands). Currently local land-use decision makers are encouraged to consider the EUL principles and tools in land use planning and decision making. The goal is to incorporate these EUL principles into future regional plans. The government is interested in working with municipalities to achieve the outcome of this strategy.

This presentation was a part of the Community Planning Association of Alberta Annual Conference, April 2015.
